چکیده

Infection with Pantoea stewartii subspecies stewartii, which causes jackfruit-bronzing disease, is a huge problem faced by the jackfruit industry in Malaysia. This study was carried out to assess disease ratings and aggressiveness performance of 28 isolated from diseased jackfruits four collection areas (Jenderam Selangor State, Maran Muadzam Shah Pahang Ipoh Perak State) Peninsular Malaysia, inoculated into varieties (Tekam Yellow J33, Hong J34 Subang Chap Boy J39), sweetcorn variety, Mas Madu (two-week-old seedlings nine-week-old seedlings), cucumber Rocky, pineapple MD2. The results revealed that produced symptoms upon all inoculations pathogenicity testing, thus fulfilling Koch’s postulates, except case J39 seedlings). No (disease rating 0) were observed seedlings) within 14 days post-inoculation (14 dpi). progression (based on ratings) proved variety most resistant, whereas J33 susceptible disease. 14-dpi period variability among bacterial isolates, where isolate JEN-14 had fastest highest when J34, seedlings, cucumber, pineapple. Likewise, AUDPC value, based rating, across isolates indicated aggressive significant (J33, inoculation; p < 0.05). Even though Jenderam (other than JEN-14) better area under progress curve (AUDPC) values Ipoh, no differences found (p Based our findings, we identified as best potential candidate assist resistance breeding future. Last but not least, methods, ratings, variations profiles this may be beneficial providing disease-rating references appropriate screening approaches selecting appropriately for evaluating defense response program.

The bacterium Pantoea stewartii uses two different type III secretion systems to colonize its plant host and insect vector.

Plant- and animal-pathogenic bacteria utilize phylogenetically distinct type III secretion systems (T3SS) that produce needle-like injectisomes or pili for the delivery of effector proteins into host cells. Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii (herein referred to as P. stewartii), the causative agent of Stewart's bacterial wilt and leaf blight of maize, carries phylogenetically distinct T3SSs. In...

The replicon of pSW800 from Pantoea stewartii.

A 2019 bp DNA fragment containing the replicon of pSW800 from Pantoea stewartii SW2 was cloned and characterized. This replicon contains two genes--repA and repB, which encode a 36.5 kDa replication initiation protein (RepA) and a peptide of 18 aa, respectively. These two genes overlap by 8 bases with repB situated upstream. The replicon also transcribes an antisense RNA (RNAI) that inhibits th...

A negative regulator mediates quorum-sensing control of exopolysaccharide production in Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii.

Classical quorum-sensing (autoinduction) regulation, as exemplified by the lux system of Vibrio fischeri, requires N-acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) signals to stimulate cognate transcriptional activators for the cell density-dependent expression of specific target gene systems. For Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii, a bacterial pathogen of sweet corn and maize, the extracellular polysaccharide ...

Biological role of pigment production for the bacterial phytopathogen Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii.

Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii, the causal agent of Stewart's wilt of sweet corn, produces a yellow carotenoid pigment. A nonpigmented mutant was selected from a bank of mutants generated by random transposon mutagenesis. The transposon insertion site was mapped to the crtB gene, encoding a putative phytoene synthase, an enzyme involved in the early steps of carotenoid biosynthesis. We demo...

Development of an Immunochromatographic Strip for Rapid Detection of Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii

A rapid, simple, sensitive, and specific immunochromatographic test strip was developed for the detection of Pantoea stewartii subsp. stewartii (Pss) in corn seed which was soaked overnight and then centrifuged for precipitate re-dissolved as samples. A pair of sensitive monoclonal antibodies for the immunochromatographic test strip was generated by mice immunization and cell fusion. Under opti...
